Remember, nothing happens until you make a sale -- whether it's of your services or your product. You can have the best service or product in the world but until people know about nothing *will* happen.
After determining that there is, indeed, a need or a niche for your service or product, decide what it's "unique selling point"; take a hard, objective look at your product or service. Try to figure out something you or your product do better or differently than others in your same field; a unique niche that no one "owns" yet. Then learn how to market that "unique selling point."
Develop a marketing plan. Break it down into steps and quantitative milestones. In other words, how soon do you want to and how soon do you think you can reach that first $1, $1000, $10,000 in sales, remembering that a per cent of that must be spent up front on marketing.
Look at all your marketing options from Google Adwords, to email marketing, and direct mail and decide what is the best fit for your product.
Develop a budget. Either stick to it or be realistic about modifications.
Don’t be daunted by roadblocks. “Never accept ‘no.’ Be persistent. When the door is closed, look for a window. You never know where you will encounter help,” Don't be afraid to try a wide variety of marketing methods until you find one that works for you. Test, test and test.
Here is an article I think will be very helpful in providing a framework for your plan. It's called "Eight Steps To a Great Marketing Plan":
